In my opinion it looks similar to what made Java the most popular language, lately I read also about JavaScript as most promising language for future (but can't find it now).

Update: If you use Chrome then you can use "Throttling" so simulate slow network for all your assets. This should be easier than proxy. Toggle device mode   Choose Network type.
